Participants will learn a practical, scalable approach to risk management for small and medium-sized organizations, emphasizing clear roles, simple processes, and decision-ready outputs. Participants will apply an enterprise-level mindset to identify, prioritize, treat, and monitor risks so strategy and operations can proceed with fewer surprises and stronger governance.

- CFOs, board members, and professionals in SMEs (including NFPs and public sector units) who hold risk-management responsibilities.
Learning Objectives
- Explain how an enterprise risk management (ERM) framework supports strategy and performance in smaller organizations.
- Make strategic and operational decisions through a risk lens, aligning choices with context and risk appetite.
- Use core tools and templates to identify, assess, prioritize, treat, and monitor risks.
- Communicate risk effectively to senior leaders, boards, and stakeholders using concise reports and routines.
Content
- Risk management foundations: key definitions, benefits, and links to recognized standards (e.g., ISO-style principles).
- Context and risk appetite: clarifying objectives, constraints, and tolerance.
- Core process: risk identification; qualitative/quantitative assessment; prioritization and treatment planning; monitoring and reporting cadences.
- Strategy through a risk lens: integrating risk into planning, budgeting, and project/initiative selection.
- Tools and templates: heat maps, registers, treatment action plans, and simple dashboards tailored to SMEs.

Live webinars have varying levels of expected interaction, with some requiring microphone and camera capabilities to support a proper learning experience – please email pdreg@bccpa.ca if you have concerns.
In general, we encourage participants to have their cameras turned on to enhance their virtual learning experience. This practice promotes a stronger connection with the instructor and fellow participants, and fosters improved communication and collaboration.
