Strategic Management Certificate Program (SMCP) - Strategic Planning (Live Webinar)
Overview
This interactive session will use case examples to examine the link between stated organizational goals, the business environment and visible strategies, with focus on the functional strategy level. You will gain an appreciation of the tools used to develop and execute successful strategies. You will also examine the strategies of your own organization relative to the competitive landscape. Exercises will provide opportunities to consider your own role relative to strategy formulation, execution and monitoring, and highlight opportunities to increase personal effectiveness.

CPABC is pleased to present the The Strategic Management Certificate Program. This four-part program focuses specifically on the critical components of leadership and strategy, and allows participants to acquire substantive knowledge in these core business topics. At the end of the program, participants will have learned about the core competencies to successfully develop teams, enable change management within their organizations, risk assessment and governance best practices, and how to guide strategic planning into implementation through all phases of an organization’s product/ service life cycle. The four modules are:
Each seminar can be taken as a stand-alone course, but in order to qualify for the certificate, participants are required to complete all four titles. Titles will be offered across our Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter programs.

Advisory: The course contains pre-work that should be completed before the seminar begins. The pre-work will be posted on the Learning Management System, accessible through Online Services approximately 1 week before the seminar start date.

Live webinars have varying levels of expected interaction, with some requiring microphone and camera capabilities to support a proper learning experience – please email pdreg@bccpa.ca if you have concerns.
In general, we encourage participants to have their cameras turned on to enhance their virtual learning experience. This practice promotes a stronger connection with the instructor and fellow participants, and fosters improved communication and collaboration.

MICHAEL MORRISON, CPA, CMA is a senior leader in the public service, an instructor, and is completing a Doctor of Business Administration degree. His research focus is in strategy and management and he presents CPA courses on these topics. He is an executive director in a regional health authority in BC. He has completed: an MBA; a Master of Defence Studies degree; a CMA, CPA designation; and graduate certificates in business topics from UBC’s Sauder School of Business. Michael has been an associate faculty member at Royal Roads University School of Business in the MBA program since 2008.
SIMON PHILP, FCPA, FCMA, Market Vice President CIBC leads commercial banking teams on Vancouver Island, central and northern BC, and Yukon, working with corporates, governments, and larger not for profits. He has volunteered with technology industry organizations, universities, business associations, arts groups and land trusts in both Canada and the US. Presently Simon serves on the board of the Victoria Airport. Previously he served on the board for Community Living BC, a BC crown corporation, and on the board of one of the legacy accounting bodies through to unification. Simon has always enjoyed helping companies grow and expand, and particularly the challenges that come from banking companies in the technology and aviation sectors.
MIA MAKI, BA, MBA, FCPA, FCMA is a Principal of Quimper Consulting, and Associate Dean, External, at the Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria. She has worked in Finance and Accounting for over 25 years, and has experience in a wide variety of industries, including audio technology, airlines and aviation, not-for-profit, public accounting, marine transportation, fisheries monitoring, gaming and other technology arenas. She has worked for both private and public companies, has participated in raising over $50M in funds, and has experience in international initiatives. She is passionate about teaching, and is grateful for the opportunity to connect with others, through learning experiences.
