Overview

Great leadership makes all the difference in ensuring that your team brings their best to work every day. Simply put, you need your team to work well together and towards the goals that you as a leader place in front of them. Learn how to be the leader that you need to be so that you can ensure a positive, productive workplace. In public settings, it is important even critical that as a leader you ensure your team works for the benefit of your agency. Challenging workplaces require a higher standard of leadership and one that works effectively in times of crisis or at times when you need everyone to raise their game.


This live virtual seminar is offered in collaboration with CPA Western Provinces. The content is applicable to all participants. BC registrants can access the course materials and virtual meeting link through CPABC's Learning Management System (LMS) as usual. Please note that this virtual seminar will be hosted by CPA Manitoba/Saskatchewan. The seminar times noted here are already adjusted to BC time. Applicable for

For many, the leadership of others seems like a daunting challenge that might be beyond them but in reality, leadership is something that can be learned and if you adhere and embrace its core principles and values, you can learn to grow into the role and be very effective. This course is for any leader of any level of experience that wishes to inspire better outcomes and efforts from those they lead and be a real difference maker.

Content

  • Differentiate between managing and leading and apply leadership behaviours that elevate team performance.  
  • Use the A.B.C. Performance/Attitude Model to assess staff, coach effectively, and improve workplace culture.  
  • Implement training, coaching, and mentoring strategies that develop employee capability and confidence.  
  • Facilitate collaboration, trust, accountability, and communication to build strong, unified teams.  
  • Demonstrate leadership behaviours that inspire, motivate, and support employees through change, growth, and uncertainty.

Michael Lewis
Michael Lewis is Managing Director of Michael Lewis Training, Motivation and Development, a London, Ontario-based training, and development firm that was founded in 1994 and is very experienced and popular speaker and trainer. As of January 2026, he has spoken and/or presented workshops, seminars, webinars, and team-building sessions almost 6800 times in 429 different communities across Ontario. He has been honoured to have been of service to a wide range of clients in private, non-profit, and public sectors. Additionally, he has spoken and presented seminars and workshops on a wide variety of emerging and important topics to over the past 23 years to the accounting profession across Ontario primarily to the members of the CPA Ontario, but also to CPA Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Nova Scotia, and CPA New Brunswick. After a 42-year career in training, he retires at the end of 2026.

Improving Your Virtual Learning Experience

Live webinars have varying levels of expected interaction, with some requiring microphone and camera capabilities to support a proper learning experience – please email pdreg@bccpa.ca if you have concerns. 

In general, we encourage participants to have their cameras turned on to enhance their virtual learning experience. This practice promotes a stronger connection with the instructor and fellow participants, and fosters improved communication and collaboration.
