Employment Standards Update (Live Webinar)
Overview
This seminar provides an brief overview of amendments to the BC Employment Standards Act (“ESA”) as well a major decisions interpreting it, with emphasis on new obligations and commonly misunderstood requirements. In addition, this seminar review the requirements of the Pay Transparency Act, which comes into force in November, 2023.
Participants will have the opportunity to ask real-life questions and will receive a handout summarizing seminar content.
Advisory: This session is scheduled to be recorded and made available for sale as part of our PD On-demand inventory. The recording will focus solely on the instructor's video and discussions that do not pertain directly to the course content will be edited out.

In this session, you will learn:
- ESA Update:
- how the new ESA sick days and sick pay rules work
- recently created leaves and how leaves impact vacation, benefits and bonuses
- ESA termination provisions and how they relate to contractual severance liabilities
- case law on how to effectively draft a termination clause to limit entitlement to ESA minimums
- Pay Transparency Act
- the implications of the new requirement to post a pay range for all jobs
- the impact of the ban on policies and contractual clauses preventing employees and applicants from sharing pay information
- how the ban on asking an applicant for their current or past rate of pay will impact making job offers
The seminar will also cover any proposed or passed amendments to the ESA at the time of presentation

GEOFFREY HOWARD, LL.B. is the Founder and Principal of Howard Chern Employment Law. He provides strategic and practical advice on employment and labour law and represents clients in employment-related litigation.
