Overview

This hands-on course shows CPAs and finance professionals how to let Copilot in Excel do the repetitive spreadsheet work, then review the result. Using one realistic case study and real practice files, you'll go from your first prompt to running and building Copilot skills that turn a monthly task into a single prompt.

Course Description

Copilot in Excel has changed a lot recently. It no longer just answers questions: it edits the workbook directly. It builds the table, writes the formulas, makes the chart and cleans the export. Most professionals have clicked the Copilot button once or twice and stopped, because nobody showed them how to ask, which mode to pick, or how to check the work.

This course closes that gap. CPAs spend hours every month on the same spreadsheet jobs: cleaning exports, matching lists, building variance reports and dashboards. Copilot can now do most of that work in minutes, while the CPA keeps the professional judgment: reviewing, checking and deciding. That frees up time for analysis and for the people they serve, inside their organization or with clients.

Skills are the newest part, and the most exciting one. A skill is a reusable set of instructions Copilot follows the same way every time. Participants install ready-made skills (budget vs actual analysis, a CFO dashboard, variance commentaries) and build their own, so a monthly task becomes one prompt they can reuse for years.

We teach with short demonstration videos on real files, one consistent case study across every lesson, downloadable practice files with the instructor's own result files to compare, a Handbook (PDF) with every prompt from the course, an action item at the end of each module to apply it to their own work, and a short quiz.

Applicable for

CPAs, controllers, accountants, financial analysts and auditors, and anyone who spends hours in Excel every week, with beginner to intermediate Copilot skills, who want to hand the repetitive spreadsheet work to Copilot and keep the review.

Learning Objectives

  • Choose the right Copilot mode (Chat only, Plan or Allow editing) for a task and write prompts that get usable results in a workbook.
  • Use Copilot to clean messy exports, create formulas, analyze data, and merge and compare Excel files without writing formulas by hand.
  • Apply Microsoft's built-in Excel skills (Interactive Canvas, chart-design, check-model) to build dashboards, improve charts and audit a model.
  • Install and run ready-made Copilot skills for month-end work: variance analysis, a dashboard and written commentary.
  • Build, test and edit your own Copilot skill for a task you repeat every month, and check Copilot's output before relying on it.

Content

Learn how to get real Excel work done with Copilot in Excel: clean messy exports, write formulas without typing them, analyze data, merge and compare files, and build dashboards, all from a prompt. You'll learn when to use each Copilot mode (Chat only, Plan, Allow editing), use Microsoft's built-in Excel skills, install ready-made skills for month-end reporting, and build your own skill for a task you repeat every month. Every lesson follows one case study, Dave's Coffee Co., with practice files to follow along.
