An End to Manual Effort in Excel: The Power Query Effect (Live Webinar)
Overview
Working through the webinar one module at a time, you will receive instructions from the instructor, be asked to watch the video, complete a practice session and then return to the Zoom meeting for Q&A with the instructor and to review the module. The instructor will be available in the Zoom meeting for the duration of the day to answer questions.
Advisory: Videos are hosted on the video-sharing platform Vimeo - please ensure your computer, internet and browser settings allow you to access and watch videos hosted on Vimeo as this will be an integral part of the course.
Course Description
The sad reality is that not all data is stored in nicely curated databases and often - even when it is - the data analyst doesn’t have access. Instead we have to piece together data provided in text files, Excel files, web pages and even the body of emails to build the business intelligence solutions we need. Until now this has been a painful process with a great deal of cut and paste effort, and updates have been tedious and error prone. That stops today.
In this course, you’ll learn how Power Query can clean up, reshape and combine your data with ease. Converting ASCII files into tables, combining multiple text files in one shot and even un-pivoting data is not only simple, but an investment in the future, refreshable with a single click when next needed.
Applicable for
Anyone who needs to pull data into Excel, clean it up and/or consolidate it. Please note that you must have all the prerequisites listed in the Special Notes before attending the seminar.
MAC users – This course uses Power Query features which are not supported in Excel for MAC.
Content
- import data from text and csv files
- append data from one table to another
- merge two data sets together in multiple ways
- import and combine all files in a folder
- un-pivot tables with ease
- a variety of recipes for automating data cleanup
