This three-part Retirement Essentials Series is designed to help participants approach retirement with greater confidence, clarity, and peace of mind. Course Description

Essential Financial Planning Before You Retire

This session will discuss key decisions and documents important to creating an estate, incapacity and health care plan. Whether participants are approaching retirement or merely curious about this often-overlooked part of financial planning, participants will gain practical tools and insights.

KURT ROSENTRETER, CPA, CA, CFP, CLU, TEP, FCSI is the owner of Upper Canada Capital, a "Family CFO" and Senior Financial Advisor with Manulife Wealth in Toronto. Kurt is the past co-founder of the billion-dollar wealth management practice at one of Canada's big four accounting firms and a national best-selling author on finance. Kurt has been an instructor at CPA associations across Canada for 18 years and is a regular in the national press on money topics. His fast-paced, no-nonsense talk about investing and financial planning has made his courses core content for Canadians for years.
Heather Rivers, BA, CFP, FMA, CPCA has more than 30 years of experience in the financial services industry and is the Manager, Financial Planning and Education at a mid-sized independent investment management firm. She advises clients and advisors on a wide variety of financial planning topics including retirement, estate and incapacity planning matters and has a passion for writing and creating training that distills concepts in clear, relatable ways. She believes that financial knowledge can enhance overall wellness and improve one’s quality of life. Outside the office she leads a North Vancouver hiking group and enjoys many outdoor pursuits including skiing, kayaking and mushroom foraging.
Terry Olexyn believes retirement is an opportunity to create a meaningful new chapter. He is a retired finance professional and Certified Professional Retirement Coach who helps individuals navigate life after work with greater purpose, connection, and clarity. Following a successful career as Vice-President of Finance for the Canadian division of a global energy company, Terry observed and research supported many retirees were financially prepared but emotionally unprepared for the transition beyond their careers. Terry shifted his focus to coaching individuals through the social, emotional, and lifestyle dimensions of retirement. Terry works with clients to move beyond titles and professional identities, to design lives grounded in wellbeing, relationships, purpose, and personal growth. Through engaging presentations and practical coaching strategies, he challenges conventional thinking about retirement and offers a relatable, real-world perspective on what it means to truly thrive after work.
