Overview

Participants will review presentation and note disclosure requirements under Part III – Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNFPO), along with selected disclosures from Part II – ASPE as relevant to NFPOs. Participants will use examples and short exercises to identify issues, compare presentation methods, and improve disclosure quality.


This live virtual seminar is offered in collaboration with CPA Western Provinces. The content is applicable to all participants.

  • Professionals involved in the preparation of not-for-profit organization financial statements. 
  • Professionals responsible for reviewing not-for-profit organization financial statements. 
  • Accounting and financial reporting professionals seeking to strengthen their understanding of ASNFPO presentation and disclosure requirements. 

Learning Objectives

  • Identify and analyze common NFPO presentation and disclosure issues and determine appropriate responses. 
  • Explain where policy choices exist and determine the level of disclosure needed to communicate those choices clearly. 
  • Interpret facts and scenarios to select appropriate presentation formats and note disclosures. 

Content

  • Key concepts underlying presentation and disclosure requirements under ASNFPO and relevant ASPE standards. 
  • Financial statement presentation, including the statement of operations, statement of financial position, statement of changes in net assets, and statement of cash flows. 
  • Accounting for contributions and the implications of different presentation methodologies. 
  • Disclosure requirements related to significant accounting policies, financial instruments, inventories, and capital assets. 
  • Reporting considerations for controlled and related entities, employee future benefits, related party transactions, and allocated expenses. 
  • Review and evaluation of sample financial statements using practical examples.
