This course has offering(s) that take place over multiple segments:
Dec 2 & 3, 2026 | 8:30am-12:00pm

Course Description

This course provides professional accountants with a practical introduction to advanced budgeting techniques that extend beyond traditional budgeting methods. Through discussions, examples, and applied exercises, you will examine four widely used planning frameworks: activity based budgeting, beyond budgeting, zero based budgeting and integrated business planning. The course focuses on the purpose, benefits, and applications of each approach, helping you understand how they can support more effective planning and decision-making.

In addition, you will explore advanced forecasting concepts, variance analysis, strategic alignment, and the role of risk considerations in budgeting discussions. Rather than emphasizing implementation details, the course builds foundational knowledge and professional judgment, equipping you to evaluate alternative budgeting approaches and contribute more effectively to planning and performance management conversations.

Applicable for

This session is best suited for managers and executives involved in financial planning, resource allocation, and performance monitoring who are exploring alternative budgeting approaches to better align planning with current business dynamics, without the expectation of designing or executing a full budgeting transformation.

Financial analysts or professionals in similar roles who want exposure to advanced budgeting frameworks to strengthen analysis, evaluation, and management conversations will also benefit from this course.

Content

  • Understand the objectives, structure, and applications of activity based budgeting, beyond budgeting, zero based budgeting and integrated business planning from a managerial and decision-making perspective.
  • Recognize how advanced budgeting techniques support strategic alignment and enhance planning and decision-making.
  • Interpret budget variances using a structured analytical approach to identify performance gaps and management implications.
  • Identify how budgeting information can inform investment evaluation and long-term value considerations.
  • Understand how risk assessment concepts can be incorporated into budgeting assumptions and planning discussions.
