DELIVERY FORMAT

SEMINAR TYPE
PD Seminar

Overview

Does part of your role or those you supervise involve financial analysis? In today's fast-paced corporate world, financial analysis can mean many things.

Today’s marketplace is characterized by increasing competition, declining margins, and a reduction in customer loyalty. In order to compete effectively, every organization must thoroughly analyze its financial results to understand its strengths, weaknesses, and then take action for the future. This course looks at current and emerging best practices in financial analysis in order for financial analysts to understand results and communicate them effectively to key people in their organization.

Note that this course will overlap with Powerful Financial Analysis

This live virtual seminar is offered in collaboration with CPA Western Provinces. The content is applicable to all participants. BC registrants can access the course materials and virtual meeting link through CPABC's Learning Management System (LMS) as usual. Please note that this virtual seminar will be hosted by CPA Alberta. The seminar times noted here are already adjusted to BC time. If you have questions, please contact pdreg@bccpa.ca.

Course Description

Topics covered include month-end, quarter-end, and year-end analysis, budget analysis variance analysis, and overall financial statement analysis. Analysts will also learn about the type of information that their internal clients need and how to provide this information effectively to the people they support, which is ultimately what helps them advance their own careers. This seminar is intended for accountants working within companies rather than public practitioners.

Participants will deal with exercises to learn through doing. This course will review the key concepts behind financial analysis, use a real-company example of a cost center analysis, and review both current and emerging best practices for month-end financial analysis. The course will also cover methods of communicating and/or presenting results to key decision-makers and highlight business intelligence (BI) tools.
