- Refresher on key changes in the revised CAS 315 and implications for risk assessment.
- The five components of internal control and where IT sits within the framework.
- Gaining an understanding of the entity’s use of IT: applications, infrastructure, processes, and personnel.
- Identifying IT applications subject to risks from the use of IT; information processing controls and reliance on system-generated reports.
- General IT controls: manage access, manage change, and manage operations (purpose, typical risks addressed, and examples).
- Risks arising from the use of IT (e.g., unauthorized access or changes, inappropriate manual intervention, loss of data) and their audit implications.
- End-user computing (e.g., spreadsheets) and approaches to address related risks.
- Practical scalability considerations for less complex and more complex IT environments.
