Overview

This course will discuss how ESG (environmental, social, and governance) and GRC (governance, risk, and compliance) are related concepts but have distinct focuses and scopes.

Course Description

The course will integrate ESG concepts into existing GRC models to demonstrate how existing programs can be expanded to deal with all aspects of ESG obligations. It will review the guidelines provided by COSO in their recent publication – Achieving Effective Internal Control over Sustainability Reporting (“ICSR”). It will also demonstrate how the COSO Internal Control concepts, which are fully established in most companies, can be extended to implement the required controls over the ESG initiatives and enhance the reliability of Sustainability Reporting by applying common sense and adding value.

Applicable for

This course applies to all forms and sizes of entities, whether publicly traded, private, pre-IPO, government, or not-for-profit organizations. This course is intended for the Chief Financial, Risk and Compliance Officers, Controllers, Internal Auditors, and other members of management who are involved in or desire to develop an understanding of the ESG Implementation issues and values of GRC Programs for all types of organizations.

Content

  • governance practices at all levels, particularly at the ESG level
  • ERM Programs, including the Enterprise and Fraud Risk Management Guides issued by COSO, particularly as they apply to the ESG Program
  • compliance programs in general and ESG Compliance Programs in particular
  • linkage with the 2023 COSO - Achieving Effective Internal Control Over Sustainability Reporting (“ICSR”)
